Hex and House

[tempting_the_fates]

It was exciting knowing Hex was on set, fun getting to watch him work. So the moment they both had a moment to themselves, Nyx went looking for him, finding him near the costume department where he had just gotten fresh scrubs.

"Look at you, wish you were my nurse," Nyx grinned as he made his way over. "You having a good time? Enjoying the set?"

House did not inherently respond well to genuine warmth.

He tilted his head and regarded him somewhat skeptically, before shaking his hand. "You look more like an underwear model than a nurse," he said.

"To be fair, I look more like a rock star than a doctor," Nyx pointed out, fidgeting the way he always did when he was itching for a smoke. He knew better than to stray too far from the set though.

Hex blushed, sure someone at some point was going to know exactly how he looked in his pants, and not because he was on some glossy page.

"As long as I look like an actor," he joked lightly.

"You actually don't even have to look like one as long as you can be one," House said mildly. "Angling for a role then?"

One thing House knew immediately was that this guy would absolutely not be playing some love interest for Jett. Over his dead body.

"He's brilliant, you should give him a shot," Nyx said, giving Hex's arm a squeeze. "Besides, he's certainly not hard on the eyes."

Hex shook his head and shrugged.

"Nyx keeps saying I might get lines, but it's just a five day walk-on," he replied. "Background Nurse 3, yeah? That's me. "

"Mmmm well who knows, maybe we'll need a nurse to come to the foreground," House said, and resisted the urge to roll his eyes at the way Nyx was hanging all over him. Clearly they didn't care if people thought Hex had fucked his way into a role.

Nyx was beaming though, smiling brightly at Greg.

"That would be amazing," he said, genuinely wanting to see Hex succeed. "I'm telling you, he's fantastic," he assured House, about to say something more only to hear he was being called to set.

"Hey, we should all grab a drink later," he insisted, giving them each a pat on the shoulder before taking off back to set.

Hex nodded at that idea, but then Nyx was gone and he was alone with the showrunner and star.

He wanted to be sick.

But he smiled pleasantly.

"He really liked Mudlarking," he told House.

"What's that, some type of swamp fishing?" House asked.

[just_hex]

"It's the show I was on back home," he explained, taking House's question as honest ignorance of British telly.

"Not far off, though. Big tourist thing, walking in the river muck to find old rubbish, yeah? You never heard of it? Either one?" he asked.

"Nope," House said, and it was true. "So how did you end up here lurking in the background as no name characters?"

"The show I came for died, and me visa lets me stay a bit so I decided there's got to be other shows in this town, yeah?" he smiled. "If it doesn't work out, I'll go back and be on QI and Graham Norton. That's the plan."

That made absolutely no sense to House. If you were a real actor why would you do extras work? Unless he just wanted to hang around Nyx. House bit back the urge to scowl.

“Well I’m sure you’ll land on your feet,” he said. “This town tends to reward hot people.”

"Nah, mate. Everyone here's beautiful. I don't even rate," he chuckled. "I was told I had a face for radio."

House looked at him skeptically, clearly not believing him.

"Can you do an American accent? Or at least... less, of whatever that is?" He waved his hand vaguely.

"Aw, the accent is good though," Nyx said, returning with a bit of fake blood all over his scrub top. "It's sexy."

He pushed his hair back, then smiled at the pair. "We really should get a drink later. My treat. How about you both meet me at that new bar down the road around 8?" he suggested.

It wasn't that House had actual delusions about his and Nyx's relationship. It wasn't a relationship as such, even. But it was still... something. Or at least he thought it was. And Nyx hyping up how hot, how sexy, this other guy was, right in front of House as if it wouldn't matter at all - that stung a little.

"... maybe," said House. "Busy day."

"I'd be in," Hex nodded, his smile bright.

The set was called to attention so they couldn't plan beyond that before Hex found himself walking back and forth, over and over.

Nyx was still smiling, and gave Greg a playful pat on the chest.

"He's brilliant, yeah?" he asked. "Come on, come for a drink later. It'll be fun. It's been a long week, you deserve some downtime."

House snorted. "Look Nyx, more power to you, seriously, but it's not my idea of a good time to watch you and some guy make eyes at each other over beers."

Nyx looked confused, then frowned.

"I wasn't making eyes... Hex and I are friends. ...Like you and I are friends, right?"

He wasn't great with confrontation though, and shrugged. "If you don't want to hang out, don't bother. I'm gonna go have a smoke before they call me back on set," he decided, turning to slip out one of the side doors.

That was about the reaction House expected, which was fine. He hoped it didn't fuck things up between him and Nyx, but... he would seriously rather sit on rusty nails than watch Nyx and Hex flirt for an entire evening.

He went back to set and lingered in the back, watching the scene. At least Olivia wasn't chewing up the scenery. She was giving Hex appreciative glances in between takes though. House rolled his eyes.
